Sarasota Bradenton Receives Applause from Modern Pentathlon Dignitaries
2015 Games Awarded to Local Area Come With Higher Prestige

Sarasota, Florida – June 17, 2014 – Sarasota Bradenton has officially been awarded the Modern Pentathlon First World Cup of 2015 bringing the largest number of athletes to the area; competition days will be February 18th – 21st. The announcement was made last Thursday by Rob Stull, spokesperson for USA Modern Pentathlon (USAP), and Katherine Harris, Executive Chair of Sarasota Bradenton Modern Pentathlon. Stull noted the recent Sarasota Bradenton Modern Pentathlon World Cup Final on June 5th – 8th left a very positive impression on the executives and board members of both USA Modern Pentathlon and the Union International de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM). “Pentathlon is really in tune with the importance of forming a local fan base,” says Stull, “usually with these events you only get friends and family as spectators, we don’t typically attract the local community; in your area we actually had local community leaders, residents, students and athletes who cheered on the games.”

Originally Sarasota Bradenton won the bid for the 2015 World Cup #2 along with the 2016 World Cup Final and Olympic Trials but the true test for future events was this past event. “Though the area won a multi-year bid,” says Stull, “the future is contingent on the success of each event.” The success of the recent World Cup Final is thanks to the unconditional energy and passion of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) led by former Congresswoman, Katherine Harris who is a long-time fan of the sport. “Sport unites countries, it transcends everything,” says Harris, “we’re the ideal community, we should have the ideal sport.”

Sarasota Bradenton can expect over 200 world athletes and the attention that follows them. The First World Cup offers an invigorating experience since the athletes are the freshest and are determined to get the best start they can for the year’s competition series. This event is also expected to attract visits from dignitaries during the height of the Sarasota Bradenton season. Taking advantage of the timing the LOC is already working on getting more local arts and cultural groups involved as well as making plans for athletes to go to schools and various organizations to speak to students. The economic impact is expected to be substantial; the officials are already booking blocks of hotel rooms for athletes, Pentathlon executives and staff.
