Sarasota, Florida – October 15, 2013 – The Prader-Willi Syndrome Association – the largest support, research, and advocacy organization for people living with Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) in the United States – is featuring celebrity bartenders at the Polo Grill in Lakewood Ranch on Wednesday, October 23rd from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. All tips for the guest bartenders and additional donations given at the event will help promote, fund research, provide education, and offer support to enhance the lives of those affected by PWS, as well as support the fight against childhood obesity.
Polo Grill regularly invites guest charities to step behind the bar and serve up their favorite drinks to friends and customers to benefit charity organizations. Beginning at 6:00pm, this event will feature four celebrity guest bartenders making cocktails, pouring drinks and working the cash register on behalf of the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association. Patrons will have the opportunity to participate in a silent auction and enjoy great happy hour specials throughout the night. All tips raised between 6:00pm and 8:00pm will be donated to benefit those suffering from PWS.
PWS is a complex genetic disorder that typically causes low muscle tone, short stature, incomplete sexual development, cognitive disabilities, problem behaviors, and a chronic feeling of hunger that can lead to excessive eating and life-threatening obesity. It is estimated that one in 12,000 to 15,000 people is born with PWS. Although considered a "rare" disorder, PWS is one of the most common conditions seen in genetics clinics, and is the most common genetic cause of obesity that has been identified.
