Anna Maria Oyster Bar – a locally owned, award-winning restaurant with four area locations – was recognized by America’s Blood Centers as the 2015 Corporation of the Year for the restaurant family’s longstanding commitment to hosting blood donation events. Representatives from Anna Maria Oyster Bar accepted the honor at the 19th Annual Awards of Excellence event, which was held on Monday, March 14, 2016, at the Hyatt Jacksonville Riverfront Hotel in Jacksonville, Florida. “We love the people of our community, so giving back has always been a big part of what we do here at Anna Maria Oyster Bar,” said John Horne, founder and owner of Anna Maria Oyster Bar.

Founded in 1962, America’s Blood Centers is North America’s largest network of community-based, independent blood programs. Recognized by the U.S. Congress for its critical work in patient care and disaster preparedness and response, the federation operates more than 600 blood donor centers providing half of the U.S., and a quarter of the Canadian blood supply. “Your dedication to the mission of blood donation is not only inspiring, but has helped save numerous lives across our country,” said Jodi Zand, Manager of Fundraising & Events with America’s Blood Centers.”

Nominated for the prestigious award by SunCoast Blood Bank, Anna Maria Oyster Bar hosts two separate blood drives at its Landside, Cortez and Ellenton locations twice a year – one for SunCoast Blood Bank and one for One Blood. Since 2012, Anna Maria Oyster Bar has collected over several hundred units of blood. This year’s next blood drive – The 2016 Tax Day Blood Drive – takes place on Friday, April 15 and is open to the public. All donors receive a T-shirt, a wellness checkup and coupon good for a free lunch or early bird special – a $10 dollar value – at the Anna Maria Oyster Bar in which they make their blood donation. Donors must be at least 16 years old. Donors under 18 must have parental permission, and a photo ID is required.
