Anna Maria Oyster Bar Awards Five $1,000 Scholarships to Manatee County High School Graduates

Bradenton, Florida – June 18, 2014 – Anna Maria Oyster Bar – a locally owned, award-winning restaurant with three area locations – hosted a luncheon to give five $1,000 scholarships to recent graduates of Manatee County high schools through the Manatee Education Foundation. The presentation took place on Monday, June 2, 2014, at the restaurant’s Landside location.

The students who earned the scholarships are: Jayson Clayton from Bayshore High School, who will be attending UCF; LeQuint Hall from Manatee High School, who will be attending either Manatee Technical Institute (MTI) or Johnson & Wales University; Kelsey Bradley from Manatee High School, who will be attending UCF; Nathaly Marin from Manatee School for the Arts, who has been accepted to Johnson & Wales University; and Cyandra Younger from Palmetto High School, who plans to attend FAMU.

This marks the 4th consecutive year for Anna Maria Oyster Bar to offer the scholarships to area students. To qualify, applicants were required to be graduating seniors from a Manatee County School District public high school, have at least a 3.0 GPA, and plan to enroll in a full-time culinary arts, hotel/restaurant management or hospitality-related preparatory program at an accredited school. Candidates were evaluated on their academic performance, financial need and involvement in school and community activities, and each provided a one-page typed essay about their desire to major in the culinary arts or pursue a hospitality industry career. “These students are the future leaders of our industry,” said John Horne, owner of Anna Maria Oyster Bar. “We are proud to recognize their individual accomplishments and reward them for their ongoing commitment to education and the culinary arts.”
